Wobble, Wobble, Walk!
That little light finally went off. We were waiting and waiting, and it happened. The holding onto the couch shuffle step turned into an actual step and now we have a 'mummy' walk. (Yes, arms straight forward for balance.) It really is quite funny and fascinating to watch him wobble around. He thinks that he is pretty great as well. Sometimes too much though because he gets so excited that he falls right back down. It really is amazing to watch our little guy grow.

A happy Thanksgiving and 1st Birthday!
Well it has been a good (long) two weeks. I guess that maybe I should replace the word long with eventful. OK I'll tell the truth. It has been a (long) eventful two weeks. It all started last Monday when Todd's mom called and said "I'll see you guys tomorrow!" Todd sat silent and then said tomorrow? (We were expecting her to come into town on Wednesday, not Tuesday.) Not that a day really matters, but we had a lot to to before she came into town, and were really counting on that extra day to get everything ready. Nonetheless at 7:00 on Tuesday night she was here, and the week(s) began.
Wednesday was a day of chores that I needed to accomplish before Thanksgiving, including putting the Christmas lights on the house, and raking the (*!@#%) leaves in the yard. Todd was at work that day, but, he had the rest of the week off for the Thanksgiving Holiday, which was quite nice, I think that it was the first time we actually got to spend this entire Holiday weekend together.
Thursday was Thanksgiving. A rainy, cold Thanksgiving when all of us gathered to pile into the Suburban and travel south (and when I say all of us I mean, Mom & Steve, Kate, Jon, & Tyler, Todd, Sue (his mom), Gaeb and Me.) It was a lot of fun. Steve and Sue sat in the front, Todd Kate and I in the middle, and the Champion of the vehicle, my mom, rode in the back with Jon, Tyler, and Gaeb. The highlight of the trip down was when Steve needed to stop at the gas station for batteries for the boys' gameboys. They cost $16.00. And Steve's reaction? "My Lord! I don't need these for my G** D*** pace maker! Just a m***** F***** Game!" Ahhh, family memories!
Well We arrived down at Aunt Mitzi's and the food and company was wonderful. I really do love my family so. Everyone was there, and everyone had a good time. The Drive home was just Steve, Todd, Sue, Kate, Gaeb and I. (Mom and the boys hopped in Aunt Kathy's car) Gaeb slept about halfway and then woke up and cried the other half. Poor boy. He just likes to be home in his own little bed.
Friday at 1:30 a.m. I woke like it was Christmas morning. Black Friday! (One of the very best days of the year!) at 3:30 Mom, Kate and Sara were at the house ready to roll. We hit the first door crasher, with strategies...Sara and I both at the large ticket item, Kate and Mom at the smaller. Sara and I got pushed and shoved, and I had to get mean. I like getting mean sometimes. It gets all of that pent-up anger out. Kate and I then hit the 'Toys-R-Us' while mom and Sara visited Santa at the mall. One more door crasher, and a filled up car after that, and we were off to Sara's for homemade doughnuts, and wrapping presents. (this was all before 9:00 am).
After all of that rush Kate and I headed to my house to get ready for Sir Gaebs Birthday (He's One!) The party theme was 'Dirt and Mud' because in his first little year of life one of his favorite places to be is outside playing in the dirt and mud. Cake was made, balloons were had. The family all came over at 7 to celebrate. Gaeb ate his very own cake and it was a mess! After a quick bath we opened presents. It was a fun whirlwind!
The day after was a fun day at the zoo...mainly a relaxing day...and then on Sunday Christmas decor exploded in the house, and then off to Steve's birthday.
Monday morning Sue left for home, and I sat down with a huge sigh of relief because it was now officially over. *Sigh*

Into Everything
This week flew by! I think that some of the reasons are that someone tiny in the house has entered into a new phase which is to get into everything, and then throw all of that everything everywhere. I swear that half of the week was spent with me following him around and then picking up after him. I think that he thought it was a game. In fact I am pretty sure that he did. I had to laugh when I was vacuuming and he would throw the toys right in front of the vacuum. I'm not sure what his goal was though...to see me constantly pick up what he threw in front of me... or to to see if the vacuum could actually suck up his favorite book.
Amiss all of this I had my new sander delivered this week, which means I can continue the construction of the new playroom downstairs. I just hope that I can finish it before Gaeb enters Collage. Gaeb's favorite part of all this was the sander box. When it was delivered he played with the box before it was open, and then when it was open it was all fun and games. I ended up painting it and making it the official "S.S. Gaeb" I really could not get him out of it all day, which was kind of nice, because I got my laundry done without hangers being thrown at the cats. (Another new daily game we have in the house...Todd didn't believe me until he saw it with his own eyes...Gaeb will crawl with a hanger, find a cat, and then launch the hanger as hard as he can at the cat....luckily all the cats except for Mange have caught on to 'laundry time' and hide under the bed.)
The Christmas lights were also put on the house this week....sort of. I ran out of lights on the last portion of the house, and the rest of them are kind of saggy ( a HUGE pet-peeve of mine) but I did the best that I could with a Sir Beast in his disk (and not happy after the first 1/2 hour.) So it will have to wait for a time that both Todd and I are at home to fix.

The Problem With Trees
I love trees. Anyone who knows me knows that leaves are my favorite. Until this week. Last year my yard was a wreck. My excuse? I was pregnant, and working full time. I did not have the time, patience, or energy to put into my yard. Well. This year it is a different story. My full time job is taking care of the baby and the house. Unfortunately the yard falls into this category, and my excuse jar is empty. So every week I have been dutiful in fulfilling my obligation, and to be quite honest I have been getting quite a bit of satisfaction out of it. The yard really has made a complete turn around.
But now comes a new challenge. Autumn. (It used to be my favorite season.) I have six beautiful trees that adorn my yard. Six Beautiful trees that all at once decided to shutter the top layer of their leaves. So out I go, Gaeb and rake in toe, and I begin to rake. And the more I rake the more I long for a time that seems forever and twenty pounds ago that all I wished for was a hot new pair of shoes. Maybe a skirt to go along....but now, as my hands start to blister, and the trees mock my every movement with more leaves floating to the ground I wish for a leaf blower, and chainsaw.
So I finish. And I have decided that you can't be perfect with leaves. They break into smaller ones and they blow around. You just cant get all of them. I have also decided that they need to start holding my church meetings outside. Because the entire time that I toil in the yard Gaeb is the happiest little boy. Do you think that I would still get credit with the man upstairs if I just sat outside on the church lawn for an hour or so every Sunday? I think that the members inside might actually appreciate that more than having their Sunday service interrupted by a screeching pterodactyl in the back.
